How Naija Life plays

A life simulator in the spirit of The Sims, built around how a Nigerian day actually goes: the go-slow, the light, the market, the landlord.

Character creator: a woman with braids in an Ankara owambe outfit

Create your Lagosian

Pick a body, a skin tone, braids, locs or a gele, and an outfit in Ankara, Adire or Aso-oke for the owambe — then a trait that decides how they handle the city. Ten traits, five aspirations and 22 wishes shape what your Lagosian wants.

Six needs fall on their own: hunger, energy, fun, social, hygiene and bladder. Keep them up and the day goes well; let them slide and the moodlets go sour.

The in-game phone with apps for jobs, contacts, messages, ride, delivery, bank and boutique

Work, hustle and get promoted

Your phone has the Jobs app, and the jobs are Nigerian: 25 careers, each with five levels, promoted on the skills you actually built.

  • Tech intern in Yaba to CTO; marketer to bank MD/CEO
  • Backup singer to Afrobeats giant; hype man to global DJ
  • Cadet to chief pilot; graduate trainee to petroleum technical director

Haggling minigame at a market stall: 'Oga, last price nko?' for gele and ipele at ₦1,550

Haggle like you mean it

"Oga, last price nko?" At the market stall you push the price up or down while the buyer's patience runs out. Hold firm too long and they walk away. Get it right and that's your profit.

Buy groceries and cook at home, order delivery, or chop out — Amala Shitta in Lagos, bole and fish in PH, suya in Wuse.

Questions

Is Naija Life free?

Yes. The whole game is free in your browser and on Android, and it will be free on iPhone. In-game naira can be topped up if you want it — Paystack in the browser, in-app purchase on the phones — but nothing in the game is behind a purchase.

Can I play in my browser?

Yes. Press Play in your browser and the game opens at naijalifegame.ng/play with nothing to install. It runs on a phone browser as well as a computer, and you can add it to your home screen so it opens full screen like an app.

Is there an Android or iPhone app?

The Android app is out now, free on Google Play. The iPhone app is coming soon. Both use the same account and the same save as the browser, so a Lagosian you start today follows you to the phone.

Is Naija Life only set in Lagos?

No. Lagos is home, but you can fly or take the night bus to Abuja and Port Harcourt, each with its own places, homes and food. Players sometimes call those parts Abuja Life and PH Life.

Do I need an account to play?

No. You can play as a guest: the save stays on your device and there is no chat. An account adds a cloud save, the leaderboard, chat with other Lagosians, and somewhere for a top-up to land.

Does it work without a connection?

The simulation runs on your device, so a dropped connection does not stop the game. It saves locally and catches up with the server when you are back online. Chat, the leaderboard and cloud saves need a connection.
